After my trip to Lagos I had a lovely radio interview with Tom Doesborg and Frans Pollux about my Bronxites project and the launch of my first book ‘Ghost Republic Somaliland’. It was a pleasure being their guest.

Finally it’s here! November 1 marks the publication of my first photo book, Ghost Republic Somaliland: democracy against all odds. This remarkable book is the result of my personal travels through Somaliland, a budding democracy within the failed state of Somalia. The publication celebrates the Somalilanders who have been building their nation in the wake of the horrors and atrocities of a dictatorship, and in spite of a complete lack of international recognition. For this project I collaborated with Somaliland newspaper Jamhuuriya, who published my photographs from December 10, 2010 through February 21, 2011. Alongside my photographs this first, limited deluxe edition of 80 hand numbered copies protected by an exclusive linen slipcover also holds the 21 original Jamhuuriya publications.

It’s an honor to have the Felabration series of Judith and me exhibited along side Anton Corbijn’s photographs of Fela Kuti taken in 1980 in Paris.
It’s shown in the wonderful Nimbus Art Gallery in Lagos, that is part of Bogobiri House – the place to be in Lagos for great music and food!
This exhibition celebrates the annual Felabration Festival with photographs taken by Anton Corbijn, Judith Quax and Chantal Heijnen.
I’m proud to announce that I received a wonderful grant from the Mondriaan foundation to continue to work on my Fela Kuti project! And I’m honored that Bami Adedoyin – artist, and Carlijn Urlings – writer, both amazing women, will be part of this special project!
